Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim may be the world's richest man but he limits his monthly salary to 24,000 dollars and travels in a Suburban, according to his latest biography. Slim, 70, knocked Bill Gates from the top of the Forbes list of the world's billionaires this year with an estimated fortune of 53.5 billion dollars. He began his business career aged 10, selling sweets and drinks to his family and later made his name with aggressive investments during crises. "Unlike aristocrats, the jet set or the monarchy, he's extremely simple," biographer Jose Martinez told us as a new edition of his 2002 book, Carlos Slim, unpublished portrait , was set for release across Latin America. According to his biographer, Slim's fortune far exceeds the amount calculated by Forbes. The fifth of six children -- three boys and three girls -- Slim was born into a well-off family, including a Lebanese immigrant father, in Mexico City in January 1940. Slim studied civil engineering and later built up the telephone monopoly Telmex after acquiring it from the government in 1990. He hit the top spot of billionaires after his fortune rose to 18.5 billion in 12 months, and shares of America Movil, of which he owns a 23-billion-dollar stake, were up 35 per cent in a year, according to Forbes.

A Hug can help you beat the blues :) :)
Feeling down in the dumps? Well, then go out and get a hug.
After analyzing data from the 2007 Canadian Community Health Survey, researchers found that people who get hugs regularly are more likely to report better mental health. "For people who either benefit from affection or lack it, there are substantial differences," The Globe and Mail quoted Jack Jedwab, executive director of the Montreal-based Association of Canadians Studies, as saying. He added: "I recommend getting a hug." According to Jack, the study's findings make sense because affection has a clear link to being part of a healthy, loving community.

US girl eats five soaps a week
LONDON: A 19-year-old girl in the US is getting treatment for her addiction of eating soaps and detergent powders. Tempestt Henderson, from Florida, eats up to five bars of soap a week and washing powder as well, the Daily Mail reported here. According to doctors, the toxic compulsion is a rare medical condition, PICA, which causes an appetite for substances that are largely non-nutritive. People suffering form PICA have been known to compulsively eat metal, coins, chalk, batteries and toothbrushes. It can often be caused by a mineral deficiency, which explains why pregnant women often crave eating coal when needing iron. "In the shower, I like to lather up a green bar of soap, and lick the bubbles. And as the soap disintegrates, I pop a tiny amount of the soap into my mouth and suck it. It's heavenly," she was quoted as saying. "I love the clean feeling it gives me. Eating soap feels so much cleaner than just washing with it."
